City of Greenville

Real estate property taxes and personal property taxes are billed by the Greenville County Auditor and collected by the Greenville County tax collector for all property in Greenville County. Commercial real property taxes are calculated by multiplying the Market Value by 6% to calculate the Assessed Value. The Assessed Value is then multiplied by the millage rate for the district in which the property is located to determine the taxes paid. For sites within the City of Greenville, a storm water management fee is also assessed to the owner based on the total square footage of impervious area. This fee is billed by the Greenville County Auditor and collected by the Greenville County Tax Collector www.greenvillecounty.org/Tax_Collector.

The City of Greenville has a business license tax abatement program which provides an abatement of 100% in the first year of operation, 66% in the second year and 33% in the third year for qualified types of "new" businesses locating in designated areas of the City. A business will be considered "new" if it is located on real property which is annexed into the City or establishes a location in the City even if it has previously conducted the same or similar operations outside the City. Any qualified business issued a business license permit for less than a six month period in its first taxable year of operation may elect to extend its 100 percent abatement to the second taxable year provided it pays 50 percent of the tax otherwise due in the third taxable year. For an application, maps of designated areas and a listing of eligible categories, please go to: www.greenvillesc.gov/Revenue/TaxAbatement.aspx.
